Mr Murali Prakash

Group Managing Director/CEO

Mr. Murali Prakash holds a MBA from University of Southern Queensland, Australia and is also a Certified Professional Marketer (Asia Pacific) and a Certified Management Accountant (Aust.). He also holds an Executive Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Colombo and is an Alumni of the National University of Singapore and Asian Institute of Management, Manila. His specialization at AIM was on strategic marketing. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute (London) and Certified Professional Managers Sri Lanka.

He served as the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Browns Group of Companies, a public quoted conglomerate involved in trading, manufacturing, finance, travel and tours, plantations and investments. Under his stewardship, the group re-established its past glory and emerged as a blue chip and was ranked amongst the top 25 corporates in Sri Lanka.

He has also served as the Chairman of Galoya Holdings (Private) Limited, a public private partnership. During his tenure this entity was completely revamped producing today a substantial portion of the local sugar production after a lapse of 15 years with over 4000 hectares of sugar cultivation and a state of the art factory.

He was also the Sales Director of Singer (Sri Lanka) PLC being in charge of over 350 retail outlets and over 1000 trade channel dealers. His other stints with Singer had been as the Deputy Credit Director and Credit Manager for many years, handling the marketing and management of hire purchase and related credit portfolios. He also served on the Boards of Singer (Sri Lanka) Ltd, Singer Finance Lanka Ltd and Singer Industries (Ceylon) Ltd and was instrumental in setting up the Singer Finance Lanka Ltd.

He is the current President of ICMA- Australia Sri Lanka branch and also serves as a Vice President of the management club of Sri Lanka. He was the former President of Rotary Uptown Colombo and a keen enthusiast in community service.

He currently serves as a Director of Laugfs Holdings, the ultimate parent company of Laugfs Group and in several other Boards within the group including the Laugfs Gas PLC involved in group strategy, mergers and acquisitions and business development. He is also a Board Member of Dankotuwa Porcelain PLC and Ceylon Leather Products PLC.
